Note that for non-prototype Serial Numbers in position #4. the letter I (as in Idol) may be used. The numeral "1" is not used in this position. The Unit Number is assigned by the Registry to facilitate searching; a leading zero is used for 999 and lower.

Interior Code Breakdown: four characters: (first - digit) biscuit and bolster combination 1 = leather; 2 = nylon/leather, 3 = matelasse/leather, 4 = nylon/broadcloth, 5 = matelasse/broadcloth, 6 = broadcloth/broadcloth, 8 = tweed/leather; (second - letter) biscuit color; (third - digit) bolster color; (fourth - letter) leather welting color.
